Welcome to the home of the Iota Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. located in historical and picturesque Poughkeepsie NY! Established in 1969, the ladies of Iota Alpha Omega chapter have served the Mid Hudson Valley through quality community service initiatives and programs aimed at fostering academic achievement, creating political and cultural awareness and creating lasting partnerships with area businesses and organizations.

“Sisterhood and Strength of Purpose” have sustained us for over 40 years. Our successes have resulted from our willingness to understand and respect each other and to recognize and appreciate the diversity, talents and uniqueness that each member possesses. Each member exemplifies the life-long commitment to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated based in a theme of Enhancing, Sustaining, and Perpetuating our illustrious organization and community. A special invitation is extended to those ladies of AKA who are contemplating a new chapter home. “There is ALWAYS room for one more at an Alpha Kappa Alpha table.” We look forward to welcoming you home with open arms and glad hearts.

“Service to ALL Mankind” is the motto we continue to live by as Alpha Kappa Alpha members. Presenting fourteen community service programs in Dutchess and Orange counties in 2008, Iota Alpha Omega pledges to continue to be a catalyst for change within our community in 2009 and beyond by addressing a myriad of economic, social and educational issues. Extraordinary Service Programs are also the vehicle for the ladies of AKA to partner with like minded organizations, schools and institutions of higher learning and businesses who are willing to contribute time and effort to the betterment of individuals and families.  The Iota Alpha Omega Community Scholarship Fund (501 (3) c) routinely accrues charitable contributions to award exemplary academic achievement in promotion of “lifelong learning” in the Mid Hudson Valley.

It is with heartfelt joy and thanks that I continue the journey began some forty years  ago by the outstanding women who have led our great chapter.  Prayer, Faith and “standing on the shoulders of Alpha Kappa Alpha giants” strengthen our perpetuity and resolve in the tradition of our Founders. We continue to look forward with compassionate hearts to many more successful years of service to ALL mankind here in the Mid Hudson Valley…for THAT is the way of an AKA!
